How to Vectorize Customer Logos for Print-Ready Apparel: A Real 3-Logo Workflow

Start With the Job Map, Not the Vectorizer
The customer sent three different logo files for a quote, several garment colors, and front, back, and right-shoulder placements. That sounds complete until you try to build proofs: the email did not establish every file-to-placement combination, every artwork color, or any final physical size. The first production task is therefore intake. Label each source, record what must not change, map each intended placement from the wearer’s perspective, and separate proposed colorways from approved ones.

Use Separate Jobs Without Calling It Batch Processing
Alex’s “pro move” was opening three DesignGen tabs so each logo could process independently. It is a useful organizational shortcut, but every file still receives its own upload, preview, inspection, and final decision. Use unmistakable names before you start—customer, logo role, artwork color, placement, and version—so a black back logo never gets confused with a white shoulder proof. Parallel browser tabs save waiting time; clear job control prevents the expensive mistakes.

Vectorize First—Then Look for What Changed
Two results looked usable quickly. The third also looked promising until closer review showed that some white detail had changed. That exception is the real lesson: a clean preview can still be unfaithful. Compare the source and preview at normal viewing size and close zoom. Read every character. Check counters inside letters, thin outlines, holes and negative space, facial or illustrated details, and any light element that disappears against the interface background. If a meaningful detail changed, stop and refine, clean the source, or repair the vector before accepting it.

Confirm You Received Editable Paths, Not Just an SVG Wrapper
After downloading the accepted result, Alex opened it in Affinity and could select the design’s individual vector elements. That is the expected master-file outcome when later recolors or shape repairs are part of the job. An .svg filename alone is not proof: an SVG can contain an embedded raster image. Open the file in a compatible editor, verify that the intended shapes and layers are selectable, check for hidden pieces, and preserve this master before creating any derivatives.

Recolor the Intended Layers as One Deliberate Mark
For this one-color logo, Alex selected the vector layers and normalized them to one true black instead of leaving nearly identical dark shades. On macOS, Select All is Command+A; on Windows it is Control+A. The shortcut is easy—the review is the work. Confirm that every intended shape was selected, that hidden or light elements did not remain behind, and that any exact brand value comes from an approved reference rather than an eyedropper guess. Preserve the master, then create clearly labeled black, white, off-white, or brand-color variants.

Remove Blank Canvas Before You Trust a Placement Preview
A file can contain a large transparent canvas even when the visible logo occupies only the center. Upload that file to a mockup or transfer layout and the placement tool measures the canvas, making the visible mark appear too small. In the recorded Affinity workflow, Alex selected the artwork and exported Selection Only. Whatever editor you use, the principle is tight artwork bounds: remove surrounding transparency without clipping a live stroke, shadow, or intentional offset.

Choose SVG or PNG From the Recipient’s Need
Keep the SVG when the recipient needs editable shapes, color separation, or repeated scaling. Export a tightly cropped transparent PNG when a raster production workflow requests it or when continuous-tone appearance matters more than editable paths. In the video, Alex used an 8,000-pixel-wide, 300-DPI PNG as a large working derivative. That is his case example, not a universal apparel rule. For raster output, start with the intended physical width and the receiving provider’s required pixels per inch: required pixels equal inches multiplied by required PPI.

Build Proof Rows, Not a Folder of Unexplained Variants
Alex explored white for light blue and an off-white or khaki direction for sand, while keeping black as another option. Those were practical contrast ideas, but the customer had not approved them. Each proof row should identify the artwork version, garment color, artwork color, placement, wearer side, orientation, finished size, and approval state. Count only combinations the customer actually intends—never multiply every logo by every garment color without confirming the matrix.

Keep the Master, Derivative, Proof, and Approval Separate
The editable SVG is powerful because a new request—white, purple, a removed letter, or a repaired shape—does not require rebuilding the entire logo. That flexibility works only when the files remain controlled. Archive the untouched source, accepted SVG master, tightly bounded production derivatives, labeled proof, and written approval as separate records. Reopen every final file, verify transparency and bounds, confirm the physical dimensions and recipient specification, and make sure the approved proof points to the exact production version.
